Pennsylvania State Chess Championships

The Esperanza chess team is showing true Toro pride as they are winning trophies and making their school extremely proud of them in the Pennsylvania State Chess Championships. Both middle and high school teams were in Gettysburg this past weekend competing to be able to head off into nationals which were able to happen as our students worked so hard! The middle school came in first place in the section of K-9 U600 and the high school came in third place in the section of 7-12 U1000.

Individually, Jose Velazquez won first place as he scored a perfect 5-0 and was selected to keep score of the points in the high school section. Just as Christopher DeJesus-Bones and Moises Hernandez-Mejias were able to use their talents to come in seventh place. Wellington Machaqiuza-Iza and Osvaldo Perez-Rodriguez showed their chess skills by coming in tenth place. Profoundly, DeShawn McClary was able to score first place in the Top U800, just as Fernando Soto came in second place in Top U500, which is so amazing. Deilyn Soto was the top girl who came in first place and she showed that she is a true chess champion.

Praise is also needed to be given to the teachers who helped make this happen and are so proud to be apart of the team - Ms.Moshier, Ms.Hummel and Coach Angelo. The rest of the Esperanza family are all so proud of the students on the chess team. Congratulations and best of luck at Nationals to the Esperanza Chess team! zfgdsgffvfvfv
